Before the latest storm hit, we went out for a nice long walk and visited friends Sunday morning (Yes, this was supposed to be our Monday post, but we were postponed because of Hu-dad’s run-in with those Big Dog Elk that we told you about yesterday). Qannik and Kiska (and Frankie) sure look relaxed here.
You will notice that Kiska is doing her paw cross, that ultimate in relaxed dog look.
When Hu-dad zoomed in for a tight shot, he noticed that Kiska might need a little paw trim.

Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd Update
The fundraising race is really tight with Typhoon closing the gap fast on Qannik, $150 versus $155. Kiska is at $120, Cheoah $105, and Natasha and Frankie have raised $80 and $55 respectively. The real winner, of course, are the rescued animals you are helping to fund at Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
Less than two weeks to go before Valentine’s Day, but there is plenty of time for the rest of The Herd to catch up to the leaders . . . and plenty of time for you to enter the Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd contest. We will announce the winner on February 14, so your Valentine’s card must be received by February 13 in order to be eligible for our drawing – a gift basket from Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery!
Remember to mail your Valentine’s card(s) to your favorite member of The Herd (To: Dog’s Name, c/o The Thundering Herd, PO Box 1835, Maggie Valley, NC 28751-1835). If you wish, you may also include a donation made payable to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation (who saved 1,231 dogs and cats in 2014 – over 3 animals every single day of the year – see this article for details).
You can find the profiles of each dog at these links – Cheoah, Natasha, Qannik, Kiska, Typhoon and Frankie.
