Long-time readers know that our Head of Security – Kiska – is very serious about her duties. Hu-dad heard her alarm yesterday morning and witnessed her tight security standards.
Just outside of this fence line, our property drops down to a ravine where some of our neighbors live – a pack of coyotes. We get along quite well with them and even lead them in song time, but Kiska is quite clear that they should not get too close.
Their hunting trip apparently came a little too close to our secure zone for our Security Chief, so she sounded the alarm.
And with warning issued by our enforcer, the coyote pack took off down the ravine in another direction. We might like some singing buddies, but no one enters our field without our permission . . . which is not likely to be granted.
P.S. – Sorry, we tried several times to get pictures of the coyotes, but they stayed in the tree line.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
Would love to have heard a conversation between the two groups.
Love me some Chief of Security! She was the best at her job. That pack of coyotes knew better than to cross the CHIEF!!!
So nice to see the beautiful Kiska and also wonderful snow.
Love to see these Way Back Wednesday’s and Kiska being the chief of security!!! She really told those coyotes to mind their boundaries.
I get a kick out of their contrasting postures. There’s Kiska in the 2nd photo with her back feet planted, ears alert, tail up and ready to go, and Qannik’s just kinda hanging out, like ‘what’s going on?”
What a supurb Security Chief you are Kiska! Please tell Hu-Dad that we certainly would like to hear a bit of your Eventide Sing with the Others.
You tell ’em!!!! You can enforce our yard any time! 🙂
We all need those enforcers in life to keep us safe!
Ice sez: Good for yooooooooo, Kiska, you’re doing a much needed job, and doing it just fine, by all accounts. Keep up the good work!
