Radiant Heat Floors

When we built the new house, we installed radiant heat. The hu-dad wanted to be able to walk across floors bare-footed in the winter. We think warm floors are a good idea, too.

perfect

Hey, until the sun warms the yard up, this is perfect.

tile floors

Even “cold” tile floors are nice and warm to the touch.

evenly warmed

Notice that Cheoah is careful to flip sides so that she stays evenly warmed.

Since we do not need air conditioning (it rarely hits 80F where we live), we knew we did not need duct work in the house. That led us to installing radiant heat, a system of water lines running underneath the floors. The water is heated in a boiler – the same system that provides us hot water throughout the house. The system keeps the house at a very even temperature with the distinct advantage that the floors are warm to the touch.

I envy you! We almost bought a house that had radiant heated floors in the kitchen and it’s a very nice thing to have!

if you are installing them, you could leave one part cool, just for the huskies that don’t want heat,
in a part the people don’t walk on much….

Oh, 11-year-old Ice would SOOO love that for his creaking joints! You guys in the Herd are SOOO lucky! To be able to just flop down anywhere, and be warm and comfy!
