As we mentioned the other day, we are trying out new dogs foods after the Taste of the Wild recall. We have narrowed it down to three foods and have now asked The Herd which they prefer. Here are the video results.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.

Oh wait…
My 4Health was NOT affekhted – I’m still enjoying my Salmon and Potato –
My Sibelings have been on Nutrisource fur some months now – they seem to like that –

PeeEssWoo: As I paw this khomment, only 44 minutes to the filling o’the bowl!
Too bad your Herd are such picky eaters. I feel pretty bad for Lucy and Ellie…we didn’t give them a choice when there were concerns with their “Taste of the Wild.”
We feed Blue Buffalo – Blue Wilderness – Salmon or Duck. I don’t think I’ve heard of Orijen, Acana or Fromm, but I think Orijen won.
Orijen/Acana appears to be tastier. I switched from Innova after Daiquiri got really sick last summer. She had to stay overnite at the vet’s. Found out later that Innova was bought by P&G, which may be a coincidence but there’s enough comments on the web to wonder. I emailed to see if they made changes to Evo/Innova and they hemmed and hawed, said there were some “improvements” and “adjustments”. Not according to my dog! Anyway they’re now eating Performatrin and neither one has any problems with it. I get samples of Orijen for them as treats. Love the buffet taste test! Chez Herd is so entertaining!
wooo think im going to have a word with the hu’parents I like this idea of a buffet. Great job gang.
We are all on Acana, swapped to it a few months ago and we like it very much.
Good job, Herd, I can see you take your work very seriously. So what is Hu-Dad gonna be buying next week?
I think Stella would eat a bowl of shoestrings if there was some cheese sprinkled on top. For her, its that little dab of cheese, liverwurst, or left over egg that dresses the kibble that she loves!
Cheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
Mommy has been feeding me Orijen 6 Fish and Regional Red for a few years now. I LOVE it! I haven’t tried Acana yet. Mommy is thinking about letting me try it after I finish my bag of 6 fish.
Siku Marie: I am allergic to poultry. Orijen 6 Fish’s protein is all fish. Regional Red has no chicken or poultry in it as well. Acana makes some non-chicken recipes as well and my cousin loves it.
It looked like the Orijen turned out to be a fan favorite. I’ve never heard of any of those brands. We don’t have a lot of options where I am with premium food choices. Whichever one you decide to go with, it looks like there will be no turned up noses, in any case! LOL
We are all off chicken so it is makes it tougher to find even topline kibble that doesn’t use chicken filler or flavoring. Momma cooks mackerel and brown rice with mixed veggies and blueberries…supplemented by a little of the dick van patten kibble.
Come by and meet the newest member of the Army!
They ate the 3 of them but according to the order…
# 1 Orijen, # 2 Fromm, # 3 Acana…
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
who cares about the food…I just loved watching the Sibes eating habits…MMTO…
I don’t think there are any clear winners! There wasn’t any food left in any bowl.
I eat Fancy Feast. Probably not viable for the Herd.
I switched to Innova after the recall. YUM!
Nora
Hope the switch goes well for all. We tried Orijen, one of the fish flavors, and loved it. But a couple of us got a bit loosey goosey, so we are still on our California Natural grain free chicken. Works well for all.
Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
LOL Looks like they don’t like to waste much food! Dashi is a funny eater, nibbles on one piece of dry food at a time, but then again, there is no competition here so he is in no rush! I think Orijen was the favourite, with Acana close behind then then Fromm…
My boy, Sitka, likes to have variety too! I enjoyed the film & really wish Sitka would eat that well! He likes his food but just doesn’t eat very fast. Has never been food driven. Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how much food you go through in a week? Can you buy in bulk & get a discount because any great dog food is expensive?
hahahah I loved this video! So fun to see how each dog eats when presented with options. Seems like the majority ate the Orijen first. But if dogs eat like I eat, I always save the best/my favorite for last so then maybe Acana? hahaha. I say it’d be between the Orijen and the Acana. Were they all the same protein?
This was great! After the TOW recall I too, had to switch the boys. Got a bag of Acana and they love it! So far so good!
We like the idea of a buffet!!! We must tell our humans about that!!! We have never had any of those other brands we eat Science Diet. We think they all liked the buffet!!!
Licks & Nibbles,
Kody & Nia
Hmm…maybe the Orijen?
I had the same issue with Bella-I ended up switching her to California Naturals. She seems to really like it and I like there are many grain free flavors to rotate through.
I’ve never heard of any of those. We feed Blue Buffalo. What if you bought a bag of each and mixed it all together?
To me, seemed that Fromm is NOT a clear winner, based on the herd reactions.. but they all ate the Orijen and Acada, So to me, I’d say Orijen seems to be the top favorite of the herd.
Doesn’t seem like any one is a winner. What I’ve done from the start for both Chloe, now gone, and Leena is mix foods. ToTW and whatever else I can get. Both of them seemed to prefer the smaller pellets of food over big chunks, which I’m wondering if might not have been a consideration for Frankie there.
I am impressed with how well they all ate. I don’t know why Maddox takes forever to finish his but he annoyingly takes forever. Shelby is good about finishing up hers right away.
I find it difficult to decide which was the favorite! Orijen may be the one – I think though they’d be happy with any of them. Good pups!
They seem to like variety/novelty more than any particular chow! Does one brand have more flavor options? If so, go with that brand. (Didn’t you used to feed Holistic Select?)
Looks like Orijen had a slight lead with a few of the pups, to me! I am a little biased, as we feed Orijen though, and our Huskies LOVE it! It looks like the Herd will enjoy any of the three that you choose, though!
I think they enjoyed doing the taste test, and keeping you guessing about a clear favorite! Ours didn’t get a vote, they just got Fromm’s! 😛
Looks like the idea of a Husky Buffet won out! We don’t feed any of those brands, though Rocco hasn’t met a food that he didn’t like. He does have foods that tend to give him some issues in the BM area so we stay away from those.
Cheoah was quite hilarious! We don’t use any of the ones your testing so we aren’t biased 🙂 I’m thinking the herd liked Orijen the best, but Acana seemed a close second. Of course, poor Frankie was the odd pup out! This was such a fun idea! I wish my pup ate like yours! He is the pickiest eater ever.
Looks like the herd liked them all..We feed Canidea our guys are not real picky except our Queen Shelby…great clip…fun to watch….
angie
Hard to tell which onewon out overall but it looks like tthe herd enjoyed the taste test! We feed Acana Ranchland so we will hope for that one.
