Signs of Spring

Cataloochee Ski

A sure sign of spring, our neighbors at Cataloochee Ski have closed their 51st season - and plan to re-open November 1.

Tree

And you can barely see it, but our favorite tree is beginning to bud out for the spring. And, of course, the red team is enjoying walking through our field.

We seem to have skipped Spring and launched into Summer. It’s been in the 80S!

Ah, spring has come for sure. One day the trees and bushes were bare and the next day, everything was popping out in buds and green. Weird winter all the way around for all, that’s for sure. This is the first time I’ve ever worn shorts in mid March.

Spring is certainly in the air. Now if we could just get our weather here to commit to the idea instead of the wild swing from 70 to 37 degrees in the matter of 12 hours.

The Herd’s tree looks magestically expectant.

Signs of spring here- tall weeds in the yard (and a broke mower being fixed) and lots of ants. woo woo woo!

We live in the Peace Country of BC, in the eastern foothills of the Rockies, and normally we have about three to four feet of snow on the ground at this time. Right now, I think we maybe have four INCHES! Doubt we’ve had more than 14 inches of snow all winter this year! My poor lilac bushes have begun to bud out twice this year now, and then been frozen. Not sure they’ll survive this year.

Same thing in Dallas…my yard has to be mowed which usually doesn’t happen until the beginning of April. Also, I wore shorts Sat., and I don’t recall *ever* wearing shorts on St. Pat’s Day before in Dallas (have lived here 30 something years.) And we never had an ice storm this winter. Very weird.

March 19th and no snow anywhere! Unheard of in West Central Minniesnowda!

Stella and I walked to the PO in 70+ degree sunshine, people running around in shorts and sandals, and my Mum is predicting a snow storm before March is over. We always have one but maybe ALWAYS doesn’t compute anymore.

Cheers and good wishes to you guys,

    Stella, Jo and Zkhat

Great shots, love this time of year!!!

Our trees are budding out too, but we are way further north than you so I worry that we could get a hard frost still and damage the buds. Keeping my fingers crossed for a mild early spring just as the winter has been.

Not to mention the floof blowing in the wind! That has to be the surest sign of Spring at The Herd place that I know of!

wooo our ski centre is hanging on till after Easter, not sure they will make it with the warm temps we have been having. Id still like to know what happened to winter this year though, hows a husky to cope with so little snow 🙁

Me and The Princess been enjoying the fresh air too, though since we have really short hair and are lower to the ground, I personally prefer to just cozy up on Mommy’s bed. Or in her arms. Either is preferable.
