Mango Minster Entry – Rusty the Rooster – Good Old Boy

Every year, we have followed the wonderful Mango Minster, but have finally decided to step out and enter.  The Herd conferred and debated all of the options.  Queen Natasha the Evil as a Bad Sport seemed incredibly obvious, but we decided to go with our most unique member – Rusty the Rooster.

Me? Little old me?

And then we struggled with whether to go with Cracker Dog or Good Old Boy category?  Yes, Rusty can be quite cracker at times, but, frankly, he is just a good spirit.  See if you agree.

The first test by Mango Minster is whether your nickname is Bubba.  When we first met the Rooster, his name was Rojo (Spanish for Red), but we changed it to Boris (Boris and Natasha – get it?).  Somehow, the name just never stuck.

Do I look like a Boris?

So we struggled for a few weeks for the perfect name and just kept referring to him as that rusty colored dog.  Soon enough, Rusty just stuck.  And isn’t Bubba just one of those names that comes from common reference and finally just sticks.  Besides, to totally complete the Bubba feel, no good old boy can have a single name, so he became Rusty the Rooster because of his early morning singing sessions.

The next two tests cited by Mango Minster are whether your favorite activity is lounging and whether you have strategically placed beds.  Hmmmm, let’s see . . .

Rusty's motto - Never Sleep on the Ground

Did we mention - Never Sleep on the Ground

Rusty Zen

Ok, so we have that comfort thing out of the way.  Let’s just finally focus on that huge test – is Rusty easy going?

Always secure the best vantage points.

Any Good Old Boy knows how to work tractors.

Walking down the beach - in our own unique style.

Nothing like a little digging on the beach.

Always find your own path.

And no good old boy is afraid of getting a little dirty.

Rusty thinks his boxing opponent is a real light-weight.

So there you have our case for Rusty as a Good Old Boy.

Lets face it —ya can’t get any more ‘good old boy” than being a “Bubba” who’s into “tractors”, now does it? He should win this category, paws down!

Extra points for the name. More extra points for waiting patiently while the peeps figured out the right name. Good job finding a friendly shoulder to lean on. And a good tractor. Excellent choice of category. Good luck!

Extra points for the name for sure! More extra points for refusing to go along with any old name and waiting patiently until the peeps discovered the right name. More extra points for taking advantage of a friendly shoulder to lean on. Good fit for this category. Good luck!

We were thinking of entering our R as a good ole boy – but after seeing Rusty’s case – forget it! Rusty has it in the bag!

I love Rusty’s unique dog-onality. I also love the picture of him boxing with the balloons.

Rusty the Rooster it is! While you are a shoe-in as far as we are concerned, we have one suggestion for you. We once had a dog and we walked on a horse trail during winter walks. If she was lucky she would find a treasure! Cappie would mouth a frozen horse apple and bring it home to let it slowly thaw in front of the stove.

So, Rusty, snowball or horse apple, you have our votes.
