Traveling Home

The Herd has enjoyed their week of camping at the beach (despite missing the snow).

The Herd Annex enjoyed their FIRST EVER beach trip, too.

But after a week of vacation, it is time for the humans to head back home so that they can prepare for a week of earning kibble and bully sticks for us.  We hope to be back to the beach before it gets hot down here, but for now we will go back and play in the snow.  Unfortunately, we have to prepare for the six hour drive home.  You know what that means . . .

Time for the patented Cheesewhiz RV face

For members of our Facebook Fan Page, you can skip this section, but we had to repeat it for our blog only readers.  Yesterday, someone stopped the hu-grandmom and noted that Ruby had one blue eye and one brown eye.  They asked if the blue eye meant Ruby was deaf on that side.  Not blind – we have heard that many times.  Deaf.

You talking to me?

Our favorite potential reply on Facebook was, “Only selectively.”

Just because we are coming home, don’t worry, we will be sharing beach pictures all week.  We are like that bad relative who insists that you watch the slide show of their “exciting” vacation.  Well, that, and the hu-dad says that the punishment for taking time off work is you have to work twice as hard the week before and after the vacation to make sure that you never, ever, think of taking time away again.  It is something called an “incentive” program.  Therefore, there will be no new pictures of us this week and we will be recycling beach pictures.

Our IceMan has two blue eyes, and believe me, he is neither blind nor deaf. He can see our “resident squirrel” on the fence, two yards down from us, and he can hear the fridge door open when he’s outside, lying at the back gate! Same with Ayla, his brown-eyed daughter. She watches the squirrel “tight-rope” walking on the power line along the back fence, and she be lying out in the back yard, and hear a chip bag being opened in the livingroom!

Recycle the beach pictures…as long as it means it will keep us with plenty of kibble & bully sticks!! Hope the ride home was uneventful!!

Well, since you Herd never seem to take a bad picture at the beach, we’ll be more than excited to see your beach pictures. Sorry about the Hu-Dad having to go back to work.

In all fairness, blue eyes in Dalmations often does indicate deafness, so it wasn’t a completely outrageous question. It just means the person who asked doesn’t have much knowledge of Sibes. In Greyhounds, solid white often is an indicator of deafness, but the two blue-eyed greys I’ve ever seen have both only suffered from selective hearing as well! 😉

Love that Cheesewhiz RV face – is it patentable? We could look at beach pictures all month – so go for it!

Both of mine are bi-eyed and I have to wonder sometimes if they are deaf! But no, just typical huskies, huh. LOL. In the picture with Tartok, Ruby looks so much like my Shelby! My son keeps saying Shelby is fat, because Maddox is a thin husky so she does look fat. But no! She is the normal one. I need to show him the herd, and that picture.

Yay for more beach pictures! I love them! And love Cheez-whiz’s nose pic. So funny.

I for one enjoy any & all pictures that have the herd or the herd’s scenery in them so bring them on. You kids look great no matter where you are.
My favs,of course, are the ones where you are in your beloved snow. Just like my furry son, Sitka.

    Happy, safe trails home!

Recycle away! I love beach photos!

How ever will we live for the week without seeing that beautiful snow you have at home? OK, we will manage, and maybe if we are lucky, really really lucky, we will have our own soon (not a chance, says the Momster).

When Mom first took Dakota to the vet, she asked Mom if she was sure Dakota had her hearing. White dogs with blue eyes are supposedly very prone to deafness at birth. But, you are right, it too was just selective.

Hope the work week isn’t too bad.

I didn’t realize that blue eyed huskies were thought by some to be blind or deaf! Looking forward to those beach pictures!

Happy New Year guys – we wish you the best of everything in the coming year and beyond.
What a fun trip you had – the beach sounds awesome!
All bassets are selectively deaf – it’s a breeding thing we reckon.
