Passing Big Dogs on Our Walk

As we have explained before, we live beside Cataloochee Ranch, a thousand acre ranch with lots of horses.  Many visitors to the area will rent horses from the ranch and go on guided rides through the ranch, the neighboring properties, or into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (a somewhat large neighbor of ours).  Thus, when we are out for walks, it is very common to pass some of these “big dogs.”

Whoa! Look at that!

Come play with us, Big Dogs

A family out for a Sunday morning ride.

One of the ranch hands making sure that their guests stay safe.

One of the ranch hands was one who saw us a few months ago when The Herd got Out Herded – and she remembered it.

Best to stay clear of big dogs. They have hard feet.

Oh yes, we’ve worked plenty on not getting too excited on those big dogs out here in CO! But sometimes, a little doggie just can’t help it!

When I was a pup, dad held me in his lap while he rode one of those dogs…they smelled funny and I fell asleep from the rocking stride!

Love the body language! As for the comment you left me today, “you never leave pee mail on human legs”, yeah right!

I love watching horses, but don’t really know enough about them to get near them, but they sure are beautiful.

Now we know that huskies are the perfect sized dog. You guys wouldnt want a human to ride on you, its bad enough you have to pull them on their sleds and digglers.

Poor big dogs, we hope their backs dont get sore.

I grew up with some of those big dogs! I have a feeling that The Herd could be a lot more fun to go for a walk with, though.

Very cool article about you leading the charge. I hope you at least got enough money in to get the t-shirt!

Woos herd! Those are some big doggies woo live by. Is Rusty still jingling? I took my jingle bell off and “lost” it. Mom was using it to scare away the birds and squirrels, I have my own methods.

Must be fun to live next to ‘big dogs’!

  22. Sheba of West Africa on August 5, 2010 at 3:32 am

Horse dogs are the best! Mom has six of them at home. One of them is a bit mischievous but we get along well. I put my paws in their water buckets (great cooling system!) and sleep on their hay!
These guys look very healthy and I’m happy you have them under control! 😀
