Bath Day

Saturday, we went hiking in the morning and then went down to Asheville and Pets Supplies Plus, the closest store that carries our Eagle Pack food.  (Plus, they have an awesome manager and staff.   We called a week in advance and they had our food piled up at the front ready to go.)

The humans strapped the food on top of the Jeep and we took off, but thunderclouds were building, so we decided to head straight home – an hour drive.  Fortunately, we got within a 1/4 mile of the house before it started raining, so the food was all safe.  Disaster averted.

But now, we are home earlier than expected.  The humans decided that they should tackle another task.  Brace yourself, pups.  They decided we should get baths.  The following pictures come with a warning – young pups and those frail of heart should not view them because they are so horrible.

What a wet Cheesewhiz looks like

Ohhhhhhh, move the dryer slightly to the left please.

Qannik really is white under that dirt.

The ear hasn't fully recovered from the wash. Maybe the dirt was holding it up?

Kiska loudly protesting bath time.

No, I will not pose for a picture. The Rooster is planning to sulk instead.

Someone save me now, please.

The Kodi glare.

No, I will not look at the camera.

Even royalty is not exempt - though she was quick to express her displeasure.

But a Queen does love the rest of spa day.

P.S. – The hu-dad has decided that washing and drying dogs on the ground is for those younger in the back, so he must invest in a grooming table of some sort. Anyone have suggestions? Must be able to withstand foot stomps from Kiska.

Grammy uses our big heavy backyard picnic table for us and Sadie (our Border Collie). It has a heavy metal frame and a 4 x 8 ft. 3/4 inch plywood top.

She says she can’t imagine doing all of your baths on one day!!!

Oh my goodness – my human is full of admiration for yours for washing so many dogs together! She is exhausted just doing one – me! – although I suppose I would be probably be the same as 2 Sibes…everyone says washing me is like washing a small car – hee! hee!

We used one similar to this one before we moved here.

    http://www.doggoneglamorous.com/elevated_dog_bath.html

It worked quite well. We used it in the basement since we had a floor drain and utility sink for water. I’m sure it would also work outside. The only downside is that it is large, so you need a storage area for it.

I’m with Kiska! I claw at mom hoping that I will not get a bath, but she gets one with me! And there’s NO way you will get me close to that dryer thing!

At the sake of being a traitor…how about an old coffeetable? Or maybe just skip baths all together! Of course, the heard DID look pretty spiffy AFTER! Were there snacks and mint water mists following?

  6. Kasha on June 7, 2010 at 11:45 pm

All clean and pretty! I would like to see how much one trip of dog food entails. That must be a lot of food.

Huh.. thanks. Mom has been putting off my bath and now that she sees YOU ALL got one her mind is made up. It’s time. She agrees too.. bending over is hard on the lumbar spine but we don’t know much about grooming tables.

    norwood
PS mom wants to know how long it took for all 6? That’s worth more than a dollar a day hu-dad!

  9. Lorenza on June 7, 2010 at 10:39 pm

Not really convinced about the baths, right?
I’d love to take your place!

Having only had a bath a few days ago as well – I know exactly how you feel!

  14. Steve and Kat on June 7, 2010 at 5:52 pm

I sure hate taking a bath but the blower isn’t so bad. It feels like a good car ride when Mom blows it on my face. It tickles Kat and makes her back legs thump like Thumper in Bambi.

Perhaps you all just need to go to the lake for a bath.. That would be so much more fun. Hu-Dad could dry you when you got home!!!

Our comment keeps coming up as ‘duplicate’ so who knows!!
We are sorry your humans ignored the heartfelt plea in your eyes in some of those shots.
    We hate baths.

  17. Martha and Bailey on June 7, 2010 at 1:57 pm

Oh we hate baths too! You will need to go out and find something very smelly and roll in it!
Let us know if you need us to come and sniff something delectable out for you!

Oh, I bet you all look fine after that. Beau & I got baths last weekend. We also get our baths in the back yard, at ground level. Our humans also complained about their backs too. I’m thinking that’s a good thing, because if they are not comfortable, I won’t get a bath as often. Beau actually likes it…silly Labrador!

  19. The OP Pack on June 7, 2010 at 12:33 pm

Thunder is very unhappy, word has it that the Momster has him booked at the spa for Thursday. Phantom will go the next week, and Ciara just might escape this time. Mom says she may be waiting until after the hopefully-so-to-be-scheduled surgery.

Bet you got tons of fur flying around the mountains.

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

You so has my sympathies as I had to endure the baf torture myself last week. I totally shut down and mom has to hold me up to warsh my belleh. So instead of hers back being owie, hers arm is owie. You should try it sometime. Just go into coma mode BOL. We has a grooming tub in the basement coz of the reskoo groop and hasing to bathe cooties off of shelter dogs. Isn’t I luckee that I gets to use it – NOT. There be no eggscaping from the grooming tub coz it be up high and has leashes wot ties you down for torture if’n you is skirmy.

Dogs look so pathetic when they’re getting baths. Except for Natasha of course.

  22. The Army of Four on June 7, 2010 at 9:55 am

I think Kiska looks the least pleased of all!
I hope you guys are all OK. Fortunately, we’re expecting storms for the next couple of days, so our baths are on hold. We don’t have one of those dryer things, so Mom counts on the KS wind and sun to help dry us while she fluffs. Whew!
    Play bows,
    Zim

Bath!!! Some like it and some hate it – Our Laura loves it, Mika hates it and Eva, she doesn’t look she enjoys it either : (

  24. Huskys Rule on June 7, 2010 at 9:13 am

Hey herd…..if we were closer we would have rescued you from bath time but our Hu-mom told us that we are getting groomed this weekend….YUK..gotta run!!

  25. KB on June 7, 2010 at 8:49 am

I agree about giving dogs baths on the ground but I don’t know about grooming tables. We just try to get them to clean lakes as often as possible in the summer – so that swimming does the job!

Love the facial expressions of the herd. They don’t like this very much, do they??

  26. Emma Rose and the Duchess on June 7, 2010 at 8:43 am

Great pictures! Such beautiful clean faces 🙂
We have a raised doggie bathtub that we got at Costco online. It saves the human’s backs, but I still manage to get them wet!

    Kisses,
    Emma Rose

  27. Houndstooth on June 7, 2010 at 8:13 am

The HORROR! That was from Bunny who then ran away and hid.

Herd, forgive me, I laughed and laughed at these pictures! Especially that one of poor Rusty! I feel that I should get in the car and start driving to Maggie Valley right now, but I have a couple days of work left. I’m so sorry!

  28. Maxx on June 7, 2010 at 4:36 am

All of you must be feeling very light and komfy clean after all that bath!

    Cheers,

  30. Amy / Layla the Malamute on June 7, 2010 at 1:32 am

I looove my grooming table. I’d never be able to groom Layla without one, and my back is pretty young!

The one issue is that the larger grooming tables are much taller. I had to cut the legs a few inches so that it was short enough for Layla to jump up on, and also easier on my back too.

Even though I’m sure Natasha will insist on one that has hydraulic lifts so that she doesn’t have to jump up like the peasants, the fact that they’reT usually a minimum of $1500 more expensive than the others might overpower her ruling.

I recommend going through PetEdge. They sell things at less than manufacturer price because it’s mostly businesses that order from them. I got a Master Equipment brand table through them, and it’s held up with no issues at all.

  31. Life With Dogs on June 7, 2010 at 1:14 am

I’m surprised by just how unhappy they don’t look all things considered!

I like the idea of a table after last week’s bath round. let me know if you find a good one…
