Sunday Walk & Terrible Weather Forecast

Sunday morning dawned beautifully.  We had received another 2-3 inches (5-8 cm) of snow overnight, so had some fresh powder to play in.  That does make every day in the last week that we have received at least a little snow.  But the guy who plows our road is getting really good – he beat us out this morning.  Argh!

We are getting downright balmy.  The low this morning was 5 F (-15C) and we got all the way up to 24F (-4C).  And despite sub-freezing temps and a few more snow showers the next couple of days, our forecast for Wednesday through Friday – brace yourself, pups – has lows of 15-20F (-9 to -7 C) and highs of 40 – 45 F (4 to 7 C).  OH NO!  Our snow may melt a little.  Fortunately, we are supposed to be back below freezing starting Saturday with snow everyday after that, but this is terrible.  What are we going to do?

So in dread of those warm temperatures (and why are the humans smiling?), we give you pictures from our Sunday morning stroll –

Beautiful clear morning!

It looks like such fun to make tracks in the fresh snow. I might not like a long walk… but I’d like to do it just once, for sure!

    Your pitchers are gorgeous…

I hope the forecast is wrong and you get to keep your snow!

It’s 67 degrees here and mom is bundled up! What’s up with that?

Warmer weather is creeping in on my home turf, too. I dug several nice deep holes in the yard today to check the depth of the frost. It’s not good. We need more snow!

I heard your gasps echoed thru the valleys and it reached MA! I know, we are expecting those mild temps too! Believe it or not my little boy body prefers the cold too!

Oh come on, slush walks make for the best pics! 😉

I would kill for a few days of temps in the forties. We can afford to lose a few inches…

Oh, I just LOVE the photos! And I have some bad news. That heat wave? Where it gets into the 30s? It’s here now. Which means you’ll probably get to you in a day or two. 🙁 The snow thief took a LOT of our snow today.
    Love,
    Ammy

My experience tells me that a scraped road is even more slippery for the humans than the snowy road. So you can probably have some fun with that.

    Try to stay cool!

    Love the photos!

We got a thaw today so the NLSM is very unhappy at having to go back to school tomorrow – the schools were meant to be closed until Wednesday – we don’t deal with snow very well over here! However his Mom is very happy tonight – he’s been off since before Christmas!

    take care
    Clive

ps – enjoyed reading about the service dog you saw the other day! Must be hard having to watch another dog go somewhere when you can’t!! Not fair at all!

  13. Suka on January 11, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Great photos! You pups sure live in a pretty area. I feel your fear. It is getting balmy here too, and I see my snow slowly melting away. It is giving me so much stress that I am losing fur over it!

If you want, I can point a big fan at NC from down here and you can have some of my hot weather. I’m a bit sick of it now.

  16. Bentley on January 11, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Is mud as good as snow if it does thaw? My human mom is cringing just thinking of the herd’s 24 muddy paws!

  17. Kari on January 11, 2010 at 1:10 pm

I bet the kids sure are enjoying that weather! We don’t miss it thats for sure (after living in Alaska we like LA weather)

  18. Stella on January 11, 2010 at 12:35 pm

We are getting banana belt weather here too.(20sF) The deal is we wanna keep the snow, but up the temps. This has been a beaner of a deep freeze, too cold out for human, beast or automobile.

    Kisses,
    Stella

i smell a snow day coming for going into work. but someone needs to derail that plow guy. anypup got a few thumb tacks? no telling what happens to tires when they run over thumb tacks. and shoot. all that snow will go unplowed and hu-dad stays home from work. sigh. such a terrible, terrible, terrible day.

k, Natasha, you get the easiest job and the one with the least ties to the crime: general. You don’t actually “do” any dirty work, just command it.

Cheoah: you can be our navy seal in case there needs to be an underwater mission to get the team to the location of Mr. Plow’s truck.

Kiska, work it sister: distract any lingering hoomans around Mr. Plow’s truck with your floofy tail and all that fur in your ears.

Rusty, help out kiska by working your clown and jester act. When all else fails, do your “herding” thing with your head between their legs and herd any hoomans away from truck and plow.

Quanik and Kodiak: you’ll have to do the dirty work and place tacks in the appropriate location. In case you’re wondering, no that doesn’t mean under YOUR hu-dad’s car tires, or on your hu-dad’s favorite chair. It neans under the tires of that mean man’s plow truck.

    ok, 1-2-3, ready set, break!
hey, why are you guys still sitting around?
    wags-n-wiggles,

Wooos! we still have cooler weather down here, it is only just above freezing now. I am not sure why your humans are smiling at 40 degrees, My mum is smiling because it is supposed to be in the 70’s by the weekend! Swimming weather!

Looks like a lovely day for a walk! We wish that it would warm up some, though and some of the snow would melt away. It’s tough to get too far when the snow comes up to your chest!

  25. The OP Pack on January 11, 2010 at 7:57 am

We have that warmer weather forecast too and the Mom is very happy about that – but not us. We will be basking in our snow as much as we can before it goes away. Wish we had some powdery stuff left but ours is all packed down, tough to do some snooter sniffing under it.
