Freaking Humans Out

Ok, pay attention.  We have a simple lesson in how to freak the humans out.  When you are on a hike in a particularly remote part of the woods, suddenly alert to a sound that you heard – but the humans did not – and stand transfixed.  Stare intently into the deep woods and sniff the air fully.  Do this despite the humans encouraging your movement further down the trail.  Let us demonstrate:

No, of course the humans never saw anything.  No, of course we never disclosed what we smelled or heard.  But we kept walking down the trail looking over our shoulders just to unnerve the humans completely.

My dogs do exactly the same thing. Our S, recently deceased, took it a step further. He’d stare into the woods, doing what we called ‘spooky barking’ and he wouldn’t stop until we put a good distance between us and the spot. Given our worries about mountain lions, we’d freak out every time. I think that he’s chuckling right now remembering our reactions!

Was it a bear?!? That’s what I think you should say it was. Then say you sent it Sibe Vibes to stay away, so really you saved the humans’ lives and should be rewarded with something really good. Ice cream or something like that.

Can you whisper to us what you saw and heard? We promise not to tell.

Hope you all had a great time with Karen Ramstead today.

Was it the snack fairy? I hear that there is a snack fairy that lives in the forest! So far it keeps bringing me snacks of birds! Nice work freaking them out. I’ll need to try that.

Great job alerting the humans to the big evil creatures lurking in the forest. At least you didn’t drag them over to investigate.

This is very good you guys! Just the kind of thing I want to learn. But I am a town dog and don’t get to deep woods, so what to do? Maybe prowl around the house, go from door to door with a low growl, try to see out a window, snarl, that might work, huh?

    Kisses,
    Stella
