Too Fast For The Camera
The photographer blames many things. The low light caused by the setting sun. The challenge in predicting where the speeding Landon might appear in the yard. The other dogs interfering. Let’s face it, though, the photographer is too slow and Landon is way too fast.

As the setting sun casts its long shadows across the wild forest, a furry beast emerges from his lair. His eyes twinkling, the ears focused, and that ridiculous tail on full alert. It’s the Twilight Boom Boom.
P.S. – Ignore the grass hanging from his mouth. It takes away from the serious pose.

Frankie noticed the sprinkler was near his favorite perch. He uses that spot to monitor the antics of his younger brothers and would prefer that it never get wet. So, yes, he deployed the brown eyes to communicate his wishes. Don’t worry. No water was sprayed.

Typhoon has claimed a spot of the yard as his own, with its cool, comfy, cushion of grass. He has no plans to move and wants everyone to leave him alone to maximize napping.

A beautiful day in the yard means a perfect time for Siberian games. The wrestling matches. The chases. And, most importantly, the sneak attacks. In today’s photo, Typhoon has locked his sights on his bestest-buddy-ever, Roscoe, who doesn’t see the pounce coming.

Roscoe doesn’t like everything. He’s not a fan of walking in the rain. He can be grumpy when he’s sleepy. And don’t even think about being late with a meal. But he loves long walks in any other weather. Thinks twice-a-day food is a miracle. Curling up on the human bed as Hu-Dad reads is awesome. Frankie Suave has lived with us at Chez Herd for eleven-and-a-half years, so is probably 13 or 14 years old. Don’t cut him any slack, though, because he still walks six miles a day, jumps up into the human bed at night (the only one of us who stays there all night), and keeps the youngsters more or less under control. So, yes, he’s high-stepping senior and doesn’t want anyone to forget it.

After two days of drenching rain, the beautiful cool, sunny days of spring have returned to Chez Herd. His Royal Highness Little Prince Typhoon Phooey declared it a perfect day to nap in the yard. Great plan, but his bestest buddy ever forgot the rule against disturbing royal sleep. That ended with Typhoon chasing Roscoe around the yard, which was what Roscoe wanted in the first place.

Rain has fallen on us for the last two days. And fallen and fallen. Nearly three inches. Hu-Dad reached back to our last sunny day—Thursday—and snatched this photo of Roscoe racing around the yard. We’re hoping to see the sun again today so we can all be crazy outside. Which, Hu-Dad suggests, is better than us being crazy inside.

We all have our daily rituals. For Landon, he does laps around the yard every evening after supper. A celebration of a good meal? A thankfulness for another day at Chez Herd? Or just another Boom Zoom because he can?
Read Today's Herd StoryTyphoon Gets Comfy
We’ve had a gorgeous stretch of sunny, warm weather, but it turns stormy today and tomorrow and then cools down for the early part of the week. Typhoon needed to maximize his yard napping while he could, so that is all the explaining we can muster for today’s photo.
