Excited Faces In The Study

Hu-Dad worked on his busyness in the study while the boys slept around him. Their excited faces tell the story of how much fun they were having.

Hu-Dad's work is fascinating.

Hu-Dad’s work is fascinating.

With every clack of the keyboard, a dog yawned, stretched or snored. On rare occasions, somepup might move to a new spot to better capture the sunlight. As we saw last Friday, requests were made to enter or exit the house.

So many excited faces.

So many excited faces.

As the clouds cleared and blue skies reigned, the boys couldn’t stand the excitement any more. They asked one more time to be let outside to the yard where much more exciting things were happening. And, of course, stretched out in the sunlight and napped.

More exciting than watching Hu-Dad work, trust us.

Green Bean Diet

A special note: A reader sent us a question via our Contact Us page about the green bean diet:

I have been a follower for a few years, and I love all of the herds antics. I remember you posting about the green bean diet for Qannik & Natasha. I have consulted my vet and my 2 year old female received a clean bill of health until her weight. It seems just a reduction in kibble is not working. I was wondering if you could share your expertise and any advice you may have about this.

We love getting notes like this, so sent a reply:

Thanks for asking.

The only thing we have ever found to consistently work is the green bean diet (coupled with exercise, of course). We simply cut the amount of kibble by some percentage – say 1/2 or 1/3 – and replace that bulk with an equal amount of unsalted green beans.

Of course, you have to look at total food consumption including treats. We know some people have used baby carrots as a low calorie treat, though we have just used freeze-dried liver.

Hope that helps.

You may wonder why we are posting it here. We don’t normally post anything that is sent to us privately and were very careful to remove all identifying information. Unfortunately, our reply wouldn’t go through. One of those technical things that Hu-Dad gets all geeky talking about, but no one really cares (see our excited faces above).

Anyway, we wanted the reader to know we did receive your question and tried to answer.

Mary, it’s not our fault! It’s those adorable faces they turn on you. LOL.
We’ve kept her on the green beans. Cutting back on the wet food and replacing w the beans seemed to work best. She gets a mix of dry, wet, food & beans. We try to walk as much as we can (not near enough…somehow I got a lazy husky) and I try to control myself handing out the treats. Best wishes!

Thank you so much for sharing the Green Bean Diet! I am not ashamed I have a husky husky lol! At least I am seeking advice from someone I trust and have seen it work with! Luna is my 4th husky and I have not have a weight issue until now, so thank you for the advice.

    Speaking of the green bean
Diet, thank you for sharing! We put our girl on it almost two years ago when she had TPLO surgery and we were “scolded” by the surgeon. She has lost and kept off over 25 lbs!
