Qannik Tribute

Yesterday, we lost our big, white, fluffy dog whose happy attitude was infectious. Join us today as we share a little Qannik tribute.

Qannik Tribute

Qannik

A little over 11 years ago, we dropped off some dog supplies to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. They asked if we would mind swinging by the animal shelter and checking on an all white Siberian Husky there they planned to pull the following week. We went to the shelter and were immediately greeted by this bouncing, smiling, happy Sibe.

Serious Qannik

Serious Qannik

At first glance, he had little to be happy about. His feet were cut and torn from standing inside a suspended crate with a chicken wire floor. A ring of bare skin around his neck showed damage from being tied up long-term with a rope. His ears were so fly-bitten they were bare of fur.

That infectious smile

That infectious smile

And, yet, he stood wooing in front of us, bouncing around the yard like he didn’t have a care in the world. Needless to say, we didn’t even qualify as foster failures. We were “visiting-the-animal-shelter” failures. Qannik went home to Chez Herd.

A young and skinny Q

A young and skinny Q

Yesterday, as we said good-bye to our cotton ball, our thoughts were on that infectious smile. That happy-go-lucky attitude. He wouldn’t want us to be sad, but to take a bad situation and try to smile our way through it. We will do out best, Q.

Woos!

Woos!

My heart is heavy and the tears keep coming for a beautiful boy I never met. Your wonderful stories of the herd held me together when I lost my Rockett. I still had Kasey – she looks like a very young Qannik and she loves her black chow chow brother. I love the Siberian’s personalities. Kasey doesn’t sing, she tries, but she sounds like Chewbacca. Prayers for your pack.

A beautiful tribute for a beautiful boy. Q-Tip touched so many of our hearts as all of the pups do. We will miss him. Hugs to the herd (especially to Miss Kiska). Run free Qannik…no more green bean diets.

My heart hurts and my eyes are filled with tears. I am so sad for all of you. I have followed you for such a long time and Q has always been a part of the herd. Too many of your precious pups have passed over the years that my dear, very loved Sitka has been by my side. Each time I think about how his passing will affect me because I get so sad about your curly tails heading over that snowy bridge. My heart is with you. No matter how hard we try not to be sad, that empty space in our hearts always hurts. Thank you Qannik for all the years of entertainment and for allowing us to see your beautiful face.

  19. Karen on September 8, 2018 at 1:09 pm

I’ve traveled this road with the Herd three times now and it never gets any easier. How funny it is to get so emotional over dogs I’ve never really even met. And, yet, I do. They are a part of my life and I grieve when they have to leave. My sincerest condolences in the loss of Qannik. I know that he and my Juneau are playing north of the Rainbow Bridge and having the best time ever.
