Almost Outside

Natasha was a real challenge to housetrain. She was almost there lots of times – just like this story when she was almost outside.

Most dogs would not pee in their crates. She would pee the second she was in her crate even if I had just cleaned it.

When scolded, she would squat and pee in defiance. For anyone who says she did it in fear, no way. She had a look of fire in her eyes as she looked right at me and peed.

But the funniest episode was actually when she was trying really, really hard to be good.

She was roughly 3 months old and was playing with Nikita in the den. I called for them to go outside and pee. Nikita went without hesitation and Baby Bear Natasha was right behind her. But when she got half way through the dog door, Natasha realized that it was raining outside. Wait a minute, this is wet. So, goes dog logic, my head is outside and getting wet, therefore, my entire body is outside.

All I see is Natasha get halfway through the dog door, pause and sniff the air, and squat. Unfortunately, the business end was still inside the house.

If I feel the rain, I’m opening the drain!
